MMPA Scholarships at

Michigan State University

Michigan Milk Producers Association Scholarships have been authorized by the MMPA Board of Directors to encourage post high school study for careers in dairy management. The scholarships are for MMPA members, children of members, or employees of members, who are students in the Dairy Management Program of the Institute of Agricultural Technology at Michigan State University.

Six scholarships per year are available for MMPA members of children of members. Each semester on-campus recipients will receive $1,250 providing the student:

  1. Is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits each semester.
  2. Maintains a satisfactory grade point average (2.0 or better).
  3. Completes the placement training on a dairy farm different from the home farm.
  4. Continues to show promise for entry into the dairy farming business.

Basis for awards will be on applicant's:

  1. Merit as demonstrated by past scholastic achievement.
  2. Participation and involvement in the family’s of his/her own dairy operation.
  3. Involvement in related activities and organizations.
  4. Two letters of recommendation.

Recipients can receive the scholarship for a maximum of 3 semesters.


 

MMPA Dairy Farm Employee 

Scholarships at

Michigan State University

Two scholarships per year are available for employees of MMPA members. Each semester on-campus recipients will receive $1,000 providing the student:

  1. Is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits each semester.
  2. Maintains a satisfactory grade point average (2.0 or better).
  3. Continues to show promise for entry into the dairy farming business.

Basis for awards will be on applicant's:

  1. Merit scholastic achievement.
  2. Involvement in related activities and organization
  3. Participation and involvement in employer’s dairy operation.
  4. Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the MMPA member employer. The letter from the employer must include the length of employment, description of job responsibilities, and long term plans for the employee.

Recipients can receive the scholarship for a maximum of three (3) semesters.  


MSU Application Procedure

To be eligible you must have been accepted in the Institute of Agricultural Technology Dairy Management Program. The scholarship application, as well as the two letters of recommendation, must be to the Dairy Management Coordinator no later than September 1st to be considered for the upcoming school year.

The scholarship money will be deposited and credited to the student's MSU account.

MMPA Scholarship Program 

at Purdue University

Name of Scholarship:   Michigan Milk Producers Association Scholarship

Eligible Applicants:   Any School of Agriculture student who is a member or the child of a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association. A student may receive the Michigan Milk Producers Association Scholarship one time only.

Selection Criteria:   Must have a GPA of at least 2.0 and be enrolled in at least 12 credits. Preference is given to students with a career interest in the dairy industry.

Amount:   $1,000.00 divided evenly between the fall and spring semesters.

Number of Awards:   One annually.

Deadline:   October 1

Application Available:   The School of Agriculture Scholarship and Awards application is used. Applications are available in the Purdue Agriculture Administration Building, Room 121.

Sponsor:   The Michigan Milk Producers Association, Novi, Michigan, initiated this scholarship in 1999. The first scholarship was given during the 2000-2001 academic year. Sheila Burkhardt is the Association’s contact person.
